An Eclectic Fusion: Blending Old and New in a Resale Apartment with Modern Colonial Influences
5-Rm Apartment I Depot Road
This resale apartment is a harmonious merger of old-world charm and modern colonial influences. Right from the main entrance, the vibrant green hued door beckons guests, setting the scene for the uniqueness that lies beyond. The original door, once weathered and worn, has been revitalized through meticulous sanding and repainting, breathing new life and energy into its appearance.
Inhabited by a lively and affectionate couple, the homeowners' vision was clear: preserve the essence of the original space while introducing modern fixtures and furnishings that will withstand the test of time, resulting in a interesting fusion of neutral surroundings and rich, dark accents, paying homage to the local architectural and cultural heritage.
Built in 1976, the kitchen and bathrooms underwent the most extensive transformation. Venturing into the kitchen, we reimagined the timeless black and white aesthetic made interesting with unique and one of a kind Peranakan tiles specially sourced from a local vendor. These tiles, adorned with vibrant patterns and motifs, provide a cultural feast for the eyes, beautifully contrasting with the classic monochrome cabinetry. Interestingly, these ornate tiles were once considered a symbol of affluence among Singaporean homeowners, and their resurgence in popularity is a testament to their timeless allure.
Vibrant green hues grace the walls, and red wardrobes add a thematic touch that encapsulates the homeowners' charm and personality. This deliberate use of color creates a cohesive narrative that extends from the main entrance throughout the entire abode.
Blessed with a breathtaking view of the lush Telok Blangah hill as a backdrop, the homeowners’ went ahead with the decision to forgo blinds or curtains in the living space. Instead, floor-to-ceiling sliding windows were meticulously crafted and transported up the stairwell, ensuring that the natural vista remains the focal point of the living area.
